Your determination and hard work is definitely an inspiration! What motivates you?
Thank you so much. I am highly motivated by making a difference in the world. Growing up I did not have anyone to turn to for help, advice or guidance beyond my mother, but now with social media at our fingertips, there are so many people we can look to for inspiration and education. For me, knowing that thousands of women are turning to me for inspiration and support to achieve their goals through nutrition and training is very motivating. I want to show women how to love their body from the inside out and reach their best self, and the best place to start that is showing them how I do this, that motivates me.
As well as hard work in the gym, how important is nutrition to achieving the results you want?
Eating for your goal is paramount to achieving the results you want. You can run till the cows come home (ed - thanks for the cow pun Melissa!) or work out in the gym all day and night but without the right nutrition plan, you very well could be working against yourself, not with yourself. I find a lot of women under eat or are a little confused when it comes to nutrition. There is so much information out there and can be daunting to know where to start. Protein is required for healthy hair, skin and nails, it is also the building blocks for your muscles, bones, skin and blood. Carbohydrates provide your body with energy and fats are required for hormone health, brain function, energy and cell support.
At the end of the day, life is about balance, balancing your protein, carbohydrates and fats. No one nutrition plan will work perfectly for everyone, so if you do have a specific goal in mind and you are seeking help I suggest you look for a reputable coach to work with to help you achieve your goals.
Having such awareness of what goes into your body, we imagine what goes onto your body is pretty important to you as well. What’s your philosophy regarding skin care, hair care and makeup?
Your skin is your largest living organ so what goes onto your body basically goes into your body. I have a holistic approach with my nutrition and this goes across the board, for skin care, hair care and makeup too which is why I love MooGoo and Dusty Girls!
We know you’ve recently started using some MooGoo and Dusty Girls products – can you tell us how you like them and where they fit into your skin care and makeup routine?
I have been consistently using MooGoo and Dusty Girls for over 4 months now and I am in awe of the products. The quality of my skin has improved immensely.
My daily routine is:
Moisturise my face with Anti-Ageing SP15 Face Cream. Apply Dusty Girls Mineral Foundation Powder (Dark), Sunshine Bronzer and Strawberry Tinted Lip Balm. I use the Full Cream Moisturiser all over, as well as Fresh Cream Deodorant (aluminium free, natural deodorant). I finish with Moothwash before I leave the house.
Milk Wash in the shower, and the Oil Cleansing Method to wash off makeup and gently clean my pores. Followed by the Anti-Ageing Moisturiser for my face (the non-SPF version) and Soothing MSM Cream on my body. Shea Sorbet Butter Balm is great to pop on overnight if you've got extra dry spots. I apply to my hands, elbow, knees and feet. And I gargle with Moothwash before bed.
I love the MooGoo Milk Shampoo and Cream Conditioner as well and use this twice a week.
Are there any products you just can’t leave home without?
What is the Health & Fitness achievement you’re most proud of?
I am proud of helping women globally achieve their health and fitness goals, become more confident and teach them to love themselves more. One transformation closest to me is helping my mother lose over 65kgs after the age of 50 - now that is something I am extra proud of. Also appearing on fitness magazine covers such as Oxygen Magazine, Women's Health and Fitness Magazine and IronMan Magazine because I was able to reach a wider audience to promote health and fitness to for women.
What’s next for you? Big picture.
I'm about to launch my website (www.melissaleman.com) where I will be sharing my knowledge through guidance, e-books as well as a central point for inspiration towards your health and fitness goals. I will also be releasing my workshop tour dates around Australia to meet and impact women face-to-face (not just online). My mission is coaching women to achieve sustainable results with what they want in their life; health, body, mind, happiness and confidence without sacrificing their life (social, sanity and family time).
