We spent over two years formulating this barrier cream, and we're really proud of it. Eczema Cream is a rich, natural, deeply hydrating cream built for skin that's very dry or damaged, but it feels lovely enough that anyone can (and should) use it. As skin ages it loses elasticity, so keeping it soft and supple is one of the best ways to help resist fine lines. We recommend it any time skin is feeling dry, not just for skin concerns.

Barrier creams are widely considered the gold standard for dry or damaged skin - they lock moisture in and keep irritants out. The catch is they usually feel thick, hot and oily (often thanks to Petroleum Jelly), which makes them uncomfortable for daily use (kids especially hate them). So, we solved that.

Without getting too technical: our formula holds a water layer over the active ingredients. As you massage it in, that water bond breaks and releases the moisturising ingredients into the skin. It's a newer approach to barrier technology.

Ceramides, for a start - the fats naturally found in the skin's upper layer that help it hold onto moisture. We've selected a premium blend of Ceramide types (they don't come cheap). We've also added Magnesium, Aloe, Natural Vitamin E and more to support overall skin health.

As always, it's 100% free from Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Glycols and the long list of other ingredients we choose to avoid. Eczema Cream is ideal for anyone with very dry skin or a compromised skin barrier who wants a rich, natural cream to help restore it.

For those going through radiation or chemotherapy, this cream helps provide moisture and a protective barrier for skin under treatment-related stress. It's designed to ease dryness, irritation, itchiness and stinging, and to support the appearance of inflamed skin - including redness, rough texture, flaking and patches of whiteness.

Here’s why a healthy skin barrier important:

Directions: Patch test before use. Apply Eczema Cream with Ceramides generously to unbroken skin, concentrating on areas affected by and susceptible to flares, dryness and itchiness. Use as often as required to keep skin moist (2-3 times daily). Not suitable for large or open wounds. If symptoms persist, consult your healthcare practitioner.

What other MooGoo products do you recommend for irritable skin?

We recommend our Soothing MSM Moisturiser, which you can use in conjunction with our Eczema Cream. Apply the Eczema Cream on the patches of eczema and the Soothing MSM Moisturiser over the rest of your face and body for some extra TLC. Continue to use it in between flare-ups as your daily moisturiser, to help keep skin soothed, and hydrated. Remember, well-moisturised skin is less likely to become irritated.

We also recommend using a gentle cleanser like our Milk Wash or our Cleansing Bars to help keep skin happy and hydrated by not stripping the natural oils, which can cause dryness and irritation.

Who is Eczema Cream with Ceramides best for?

We always make our products suitable for all skin types, and this one is no exception! It's made for absolutely every-body. This means all ages, shapes, sizes and genders, from your face to your feet. But it's particularly suitable for those with hypersensitive, dry, thin, damaged and fragile skin, or those going through chemotherapy or radiation treatment. It was designed to help normalise the structure and function of the skin by providing an emollient, lipid barrier to reduce moisture loss.

This is achieved by including relevant Natural Moisturising Factors (NMF) like those found in normal, healthy skin and have been shown to be beneficial for mild to severe dryness, returning the skin to optimal functionality. The antioxidants in this formula assist in calming and soothing inflamed skin.

What are Ceramides, and how are they beneficial?

Ceramides are fats (lipids) that exist in high concentrations in the skin, particularly when it’s healthy. Not only do they make up more than 50% of the skin’s composition, but they assist in retaining water and protecting the skin barrier from irritants. Think of them as protectants that hold the skin together. Those that suffer from skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, acne etc., may have a Ceramide deficiency, so for those we recommend supplementing with our topical cream.

Over time, factors like sun damage, aging and other irritants can decrease Ceramide content in the skin. The skin barrier is more susceptible to weakening when Ceramides are depleted, causing the skin to become drier, more easily irritated and show signs of ageing. By topping up Ceramide levels in the skin, they can help rebuild skin strength and improve skin barrier function. They also work wonders to help the skin maintain moisture, your best defence against ageing.

What type of Ceramides do you use?

We use Ceramides 3 and 3B as they are the types that are most similar to the skin. Ceramide 3 is a skin-identical barrier lipid that works to strengthen the skin’s barrier function. Essentially, as they are identical molecules to the ones found in our skin, they are easily absorbed and you’ll receive long-term protection and support.

Is it suitable for Eczema or Psoriasis-prone skin?

Many customers with Eczema, Psoriasis and other sensitive skin concerns use Eczema Cream as part of their skincare routine, because it's designed to help support a healthy skin barrier without harsh chemicals. Everyone's skin is different though, so we always recommend a patch test first, and suggest chatting with your GP or Dermatologist about how it fits into your overall skin care plan.

Why is the Eczema Cream so expensive?

Our Eczema Cream with Ceramides is more expensive than our other moisturising products as it includes Ceramides, which is a very costly ingredient.

Is it fragrance-free?

Yes, the Eczema Cream with Ceramides does not contain any fragrance, so it's a good option if you're looking to avoid fragrance.

How rich is the texture? Will it feel greasy?

It's a rich cream made for very dry or damaged skin, but it's formulated to absorb well rather than sit on the surface feeling heavy or oily. A little goes a long way.

Are your moisturisers made of milk?

We aren’t called MooGoo because our moisturisers are made of milk. If you think about it, putting any meaningful amount of fresh milk into a cream and putting it on a shelf in a store for a while would not end well – yuck! We do use ethically and sustainably sourced Milk Protein from a credible Australian supplier in some of our skincare products because research has found that it helps to increase skin elasticity by up to 20%.

Are your moisturisers suitable to use on the face?

In general, most generic body moisturisers are made with very average ingredients to make skin feel smooth and cover a large area (skin is the largest organ). They can also be quite heavy and greasy, so not the most ideal to wear on your face or under makeup. Many body moisturisers are also made with powerful penetration enhancers based on Glycols and PEGs (essentially solvents) that help the cream penetrate the top layers of the skin, so they don’t feel as greasy. We suggest not using any creams that fall into this category, but especially not on your face and the delicate skin around your eyes. BUT, if your body moisturiser is made with high-quality, skin-friendly, natural ingredients like ours are, then YES, they’re absolutely suitable for use on the face, in fact, we recommend it! The natural, skin-friendly oils we use will sink into the skin to quench deep down dehydration, also making them non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t block your pores either.

Is this product pH balanced? What does that mean?

Yes, it sure is! The pH level of our moisturisers is balanced to 5.5, which is similar to human skin. Essentially, pH can be measured from 0 to 14 depending on how acidic or alkaline a substance is. Since our skin sits at a pH of about 5.5, it’s slightly acidic. Healthy skin can retain moisture, maintain a robust microbiome and keep irritants away. We of course want to support this, so using creams that are pH balanced to match our skin is one of the best ways to do this.

What does "Dermatologically Tested" mean?

You may have seen the term “Dermatologically Tested” on lots of products before, but did you know there’s not an actual definition or regulation for this term? Because that didn’t sit right with us, and because our aim is to make products for people with very sensitive skin, we decided to send a bunch of them off to be tested in an independent lab on 54 people who reported having sensitive skin. The results were given on a scale of 0 to 5 with 0 being no irritation or redness and 5 being a reaction. We’re happy to report that other than one person who had a reaction to the adhesive on the patch and another who found the patches painful to remove, all subjects reported 0 for redness and irritation for all the products we sent for testing.
